The Coyote Thunder Field Bag is Kámen Road's first artist collaboration and a custom made design for Obi Kaufmann, author of the award-winning California Field Atlas. This bag was designed specifically to carry his writing, art, and research tools in the field.
The depth and height are meant to support all day outdoor explorations as well as any length of travel in any place. It is made in a vegetable-tanned leather called Essex byHorween of Chicago that "took [us] nearly three years to develop and perfect. This tannage is marked by a high oil content and ages beautifully over time."
Inspired by joinery in wood working, the Coyote Thunder Field Bag also features walnut woodhardware finished with mineral oil. We collaborated with furniture maker Jeff Goodwin of Kilomade Studios who developed several options for us. With this hardware design, the strap can easily be removed, repaired, and reconnected, supporting both product longevity and custom strap work.
We used copper rivet and burrs because the specific constructionprovides the most strength and durability,. We matched the rivets with a copperbuckle that is also made in the USA.
American made is a Kámen Road commitment. Ourbiggest motivation for this is the employment and honoring of individual artisans and small scale cut and sew studios who share our belief in the highest quality and the care of every employee.
